Saturday Yankee: Vale threat…

The Daily Yankee

NAP OF THE DAY:  Vale Of Kent, (1945 Chelmsford), 2pts win, 11/2 generally available

This race’s inaugural edition last year was a red letter day for us when Masham Star landed our first successful 3pt nap. He’s back and not without a chance but younger stablemate Vale Of Kent looks to have a mighty chance.  Crucially drawn well, and with ace jockey Buick likely to show more tactical nuance than the kick and blast tactics that have seen him go close in top races of late – this can be his finest hour.

Haddaf, (1350 Sandown), 15/2:  A useful sprinter who loves this course and distance having won here twice this season. Dips his toes back into handicap company having been given a generous little drop in the weights.  Looks nicely drawn and can continue the Esher lover affair under jockey James Doyle.

History Writer, (1425 Sandown), 7/2:  Represents the same connections who took this with the superb Thundering Blue last season.  Easy to see a repeat dose given the way this horse won here well two runs ago before screaming for this step up in trip when staying on takingly at Newmarket last time. Fran Berry will probably need to be patient from stall 12, but he could be well ahead of his rating.

Gamesome, (1520 Beverley),  7/1 :  Ok so this could justify a trip to the asylum, but serial loser Gamesome, loser of his last 38 starts over 5 years, may just be about to buck history.  Superbly drawn today, he added to his long list of “unlucky” efforts when stumbling in third here last time.  He could find trouble in a walkover, but he is priced accordingly, and we could just be there when lightning strikes.
