The European Tour heads to Switzerland this week, with Crans-sur Sierre Golf Club hosting the Omega European Masters.
We at Lap of the Odds got this one right last year when we selected Matthew Fitzpatrick to take advantage of the high altitude and tight fairways to win this tournament. (Kerching!! Fitzy delivers at 30/1)
And we’re going down this path again. Fitzpatrick played very well last week in a last gasp attempt to gain selection for the Ryder Cup. He finished sixth, and that probably isn’t going to be good enough to get into Thomas Bjorn’s team. (These are our thoughts about probable wild card selections.)
However, we can easily see the narrative of the Englishman missing out on selection but then putting Bjorn under pressure by winning his next event.
He is the favourite, but rightly so. And we think he offers up a rare two point pick to win.
Our second selection is Ashley Chesters. The young Englishman is making his way in the Tour and also played well last week, finishing ninth. He’s as accurate as they come off the tee and will appreciate the extra length the thin air in the Swiss Alps allows.
Fitzpatrick to win, 2 pts, at 12/1, Unibet
Chesters 0.5 pts each way at 125/1, 1/5 the odds for the first six places, William Hill
