PGA Tour: Stick with Rory…

This week sees the third event of the FedEx Cup playoffs, the BMW Championship, with the Aronimink Golf Club in Newtown, Pennsylvania hosting.

This is one of the oldest courses in the US, but a recent extensive renovation means the course will be largely new to all of the players.

Renowned golf course architect Gil Hanse and his assistant Jim Wagner have attempted to restore the course to its former glory, and this has resulted in 178 bunkers when there had been just 72.

It’s difficult to make a judgment on how this new course will play, but we think there must be an advantage for those who drive the ball long and straight given the abundance of sand traps.

Given this, the two leading players that spring to mind are Brooks Koepka and Rory McIlroy. We won’t put anyone off siding with the American, but we were on Rory last week and he played well, just not well enough. We think there are signs of him getting back to top form, and if he does then he wins. Simple.

Our second selection is CT Pan. The Taiwanese golfer has been playing exceedingly well during the playoffs, finishing second, 60th and fourth in the three FedEx Cup tournaments so far. Yet he remains under the radar, with a treble figure price available. This offers value.

McIlroy to win, 1 pt, at 16/1, bet365

CT Pan 0.5 pts each way at 100/1, 1/4 the odds for the first five places, Ladbrokes
