The Daily Yankee:
NAP OF THE DAY: Signore Piccolo, (1535 Haydock), 1pt win, 15/2 generally available
He has a previous win here off this kind of mark, and won nicely two runs ago at Salisbury. Looks less likely to need the soft ground versus mudlarks Major Pusey and Show Palace, and can outpace them if in the same form that saw him travel well and finish too late in a decent event at Sandown last weekend.
Fire Brigade, (1620 Ascot), 6/1: looked progressive on soft ground at the end of last year but was becoming deeply disappointing this year. That trend was bucked by a closing fifth here on Shergar Cup day. That ties him in closely with Zwayyan, Shady McCoy and Poets Soceity but he gets a nice weight pull with all of them whilst conditions have moved in his favour.
Nick Vedder, (1655 Ascot), 12/1: a quality race with a numver of options. Parnassian is favourite having been disqualified last time but he’s had plenty of chances, whilst Mullionheir would look dangerous if it got soft. But we prefer Nick Vedder who won smoothly over Doncaster’s fast seven furlongs last time. This is a first career run down at sprint trips, but the way he travels augurs well, and this stiff finish should suit.
Zeshov, (1800 Musselburgh), 5/2: showed how well this course suits when going desperately close here last time having been drawn horribly wide. Has been luckier with the draw this time and anything like that last effort should be enough to see him go one better.
