The European Tour heads to the Netherlands this week, with The Dutch course in Spijk hosting the KLM Open.
This inland course has a strong links feel to it with large, undulating greens. Water comes into play on 14 of the 18 holes, and wind is ever present.
The favourite for this week’s event is Eddie Pepperell. The Englishman finished tied third last year and has shown his quality in windy conditions, both in the Scottish Open and the following Open Championship. That said, his price is quite short for a player that has only won once on the European Tour.
Instead we’re going to side with Ross Fisher. A former Ryder Cup player, Fisher has recently been trying his luck on the PGA Tour, largely unsuccessfully. Now back in Europe, Fisher dusted his clubs down in Switzerland last week. This course, with its windy conditions, is more to his liking.
Continuing the experienced theme, our second selection is Padraig Harrington. The Irishman came close to winning the Czech Masters two weeks ago, so is clearly in form. Given he has won two Open Championships in his illustrious career, playing in the wind holds no fears. We’ll take a punt.
Fisher 0.5 pts each way at 33/1, 1/5 the odds for the first eight places, SkyBet
Harrington 0.5 pts each way at 50/1, 1/5 the odds for the first six places, William Hill
