Premier League: Put Milner on the spot…

The Premier League weekend starts with cracker, as leaders Liverpool travel to north London to take on Spurs.

The home side will be looking to recover from a disappointing defeat to Watford last time out, but will have to do so without midfielder Dele Alli and captain Hugo Loris.

They now take on a Liverpool side that has won its opening four league games. While the Reds are known for their attacking play, it’s their defensive resilience (goalkeeper Alisson’s howler last time out not withstanding) which has impressed.

The play of central defender Virgil van Dijk has been one factor in this improved defensive play, but the other has been the energy in midfield with new boy Naby Kieta and veteran James Milner particularly impressive.

We think Liverpool will try and keep things tight, hoping their attacking trio will create chances. This fixture has seen the most penalties awarded in the history of the Premier League, and we’ll take a chance on Milner scoring at anytime – after all he takes Liverpool’s penalties.

The late game sees Watford host Manchester United. The home side have been very impressive this season, and stand near the top of the table having won all their games to date.

United come into the game on the back of an important win over Burnley, but they have lost twice already this season, showing defensive frailties.

And it’s these defensive problems that we’ll focus on. Watford beat Spurs last time out. with striker Troy Deeney causing the talented Tottenham defenders a lot of problems. We think the Watford skipper can also put the United defence under pressure, and look for him to score at anytime during the game.

Recommendations:

Tottenham/Liverpool: Milner to score anytime, 1 pt, at 6/1, Ladbrokes

Watford/Manchester United: Deeney to score at anytime, 1 pt, at 3/1, Paddy Power
