NAP OF THE DAY: Zafaranah, (1720 Leicester), 1pt win, 11/2 generally available
This fillies handicap is stacked with pace-setting types. It can pay to overlook that early scrum and go for an in form tactically versatile filly in Zafaranah. She ran really well to be second on her last two runs in July. Her only win was on seasonal debut, and it could be significant she has been freshened up by an 8 week break.
Jack Blane, (1500 Hamilton), 8/1: we were a little unlucky when our tip Jo Binney was runner up in a messy finish at Hamilton yesterday. We’ll risk the form working out as Jack Blane reappears a day later having himself been a little unlucky in 5th. He should do better here.
Signore Piccolo, (1550 Leicester), 16/1: a big price reflecting he is 3lbs out of the handicap here. That said he has travelled so well in recent runs he could be worth risking. He won well at Salisbury but didn’t quite see his effort through at stiffer Sandown. This speedy course should suit and if he can settle early in the race he can outrun these big odds.
Edgar Allen Poe, (1700 Hamilton), 9/2; Another coming out of yesterday’s event, he finished a place in front of Jack Blane having himself been a shade unlucky. We’ll probably know more after Jack’s earlier run, but we essentially get a chance to multiply the risk of that form standing up,
