Ryder Cup: Day 1 Foursomes

The Ryder Cup is up and running, and watching the morning fourballs the overwhelmingly impression was the savage nature of the lush rough and the huge advantage of hitting fairways.

This will only be emphasised in this afternoon’s alternate shot format with just one ball in play.

With that in mind, Captain Furyk’s (successful) decision to front load his fourballs with his in form players may hinder his foursomes where the out of form and hugely wayward lefty pair Phil Mickelson and Bubba Watson, both make an appearance.

We strongly fancy the Europeans in this format, and whilst they look some value for a 3-1 scoreline, we prefer to simply take on the lefties.

Mickelson is paired with the thankless Bryson DeChambeau and look vulnerable to the steady European pair of Sergio Garcia and Alex Noren.

Webb Simpson will spend his afternoon searching for Bubba’s ball.  They are up against an out of sorts Rory and Mr Ryder Cup Ian Poulter.  We’ll trust The Postman.

Garcia & Noren to beat Mickelson and DeChambeau;

McIlroy & Poulter to beat Simpson & Watson

1pt win double, approx 5/2 generally available
