NFL: Gordon’s alive…

We at Lap of the Odds have been trying to land an anytime touchdown treble on each NFL Sunday, and we continue to believe in the bet, but we see an opportunity for something different today.

The San Francisco 49ers were many pundit’s trendy pick for this season, but this confidence seems to have gone up in smoke with the ACL injury to regular quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo last weekend. This means backup CJ Beathard will probably start – a player that has thrown more interceptions than he has starts. We think the 49ers will struggle with the new man at the helm.

Their opponents, the Los Angeles Chargers, come off a loss last weekend, but they gave the Super Bowl favourites, the Los Angeles Rams, a good game. And in Philip Rivers they have a quarterback that continues to play well.

We think the Chargers will be afforded a number of short field opportunities as the 49ers’ offence stutters, and we take running back Melvin Gordon to punch in two touchdowns.

Recommendation: Gordon to score two touchdowns for Chargers, 1 pt, at 7/2, Paddy Power
