NAP OF THE DAY: Lopito, (1550 Bath), 1pt win, 7/2 generally available
Andrew Balding’s horse’s remain in excellent form, and this 3yo is entitled to be improving after just 5 runs. The latest of those was a turf handicap debut when finding just one too good in trying to make all at Windsor. Those tactics can do well here, and with the great Oisin Murphy on top, and a fairly mottley bunch to beat, he should go one better.
Archimedes, (1620 Bath), 9/2: has been very consistent at this level and at this course this season. Amazingly on the same mark as when winning here in July, which is despite running pretty well in a good race for this course and grade last time. De Sousa in the saddle a good booking for a horse who needs aggressive tactics.
Ferrier, (1730 Bath), 5/1: we’ve had success this season with horses transferred to the excellent Ian Williams stable. This filly is very much at the lower quality end of Williams’ recruits, but she ran a personal best on debut for the yard last time, and any improvement on that could be enough here.
The Go Tou Man, (1630 Newton Abbot), 11/1: in the interests of full disclosure I own a leg in this horse. He steps up in trip on seasonal and handicap debut and I’d be lying if I said we know exactly what to expect. Whilst the chances are he’ll be better in time, he’s fit and well and the chances of him being better today are probably more than the odds reflect.
