Thursday Yankee: The greatest Showman?

The Daily Yankee

NAP OF THE DAY:  Goodwood Showman, (1350 Lingfield), 1pt win, 11/4 generally available

This lightly raced 3yo was a cosy winner for De Sousa at Kempton two runs ago.  Last time he was 4th here under the same jockey behind today’s rival The Warrior.  He was very unlucky that day, and with better luck and a 6lb weight pull he should easily reverse the form.  De Sousa will be well aware he should have won last time and will be itching to make amends.

Silver Swift, (1630 Lingfield), 3/1:  Lightly raced filly who won her handicap debut off a mark of 60 at Salisbury.  Did well that day from off the pace.  Looks drawn to stalk again here and can continue the excellent Balding stable form at the expense of some mostly disappointing sorts.

Quality Seeker, (1915 Chelmsford), 10/3:  has only had six runs, winning his handicap debut at Windsor before a couple of good thirds since.  This race looks easier than last time, and with trainer Ed Walker reaching for the cheekpieces he could eek out some extra improvement.

Compas Scoobie, (2045 Chelmsford), 11/4:  looks on an astonishingly lenient rating of just 70 off the basis of his summer turf campaign.  He has however shown his best on this surface, and even then those turf runs have been better than a 17lb drop would imply.  Has mostly run over 5f, but lead into the final furlong of 7 last time, and can find this sharp 6f ideal.
