There’s only one live game in the Premier League today, and it will have punters glued to their seats although probably not for the quality of the football on show!
Manchester United take on Newcastle at Old Trafford, with both managers desperate for the three points on offer. In fact, if some press reports are to be believed, it might already be too late for Man United’s manager Jose Mourinho.
Both teams are struggling this season – the home side in tenth and equalling their worst start to a Premier League campaign, while Newcastle lie in 18th with just goal difference keeping them off the bottom.
There has already been a lot written about the relationship between Mourinho and his players, but they couldn’t have picked a better opponent to face in these tricky days. Newcastle have been poor and have struggled to score goals – surely the home team can put them away!
It’s true Man United have rarely looked fluent this season and expecting them to score a hatful is fanciful, but an early goal could lead to others.
Romelu Lukaku has struggled to hit a barn door of late, but he has a good record against the Geordies – scoring six times in nine games. We’ll take a punt that he scores twice today.
Recommendation: Lukaku to score twice, 1 pt, at 9/2, Paddy Power
