Saturday Yankee: Sand storm can batter bookies…

Yesterday’s latest 3 from 4 Yankee return delivered over 10 times stakes, the elusive full house is surely due soon…

The Daily Yankee

NAP OF THE DAY:  Raising Sand, (1535 Ascot), 1pt win, 9/1 generally available

We collected each way on this fella in the Hunt Cup here.  He has continued to run into minor placings including a creditable 8th when”winning” his side of the race in last weekend’s Cambridgeshire.  That was under Nicola Currie, and her invaluable 3lb claim is utilised again here.  He’ll need a strong pace at this shorter trip, but should finish as well as any, and looks worth a good flutter for a yard that does well here.

Spring Loaded, (1350 Ascot), 7/2:  This is a trapping race.  Leading market contenders Muthmir and Mr Lupton carry penalties and neither have fully impressed on this track.  Spring Loaded should beat them on ratings.  He has run well here recently and has continued in top form under big handicap weights lately.  He should enjoy the unseasonably sound surface.

Laugh A Minute, (1500 Ascot), 9/2:  We’re not buying the full rehabilitation of ex star Limato and he looks a vulnerably short favourite.  One of the few 3yos here, Laugh A Minute, has an inconsistent profile, but there have been a few occasions when he has looked very good.  A recent gelding operation may have reduced the temperamental nature and a good run in France last time augurs well.

Open Wide, (1645 Ascot), 12/1:  He is saddled with top weight here but has been running like an in form horse of late.  Forget an unlucky run in the Portland last time and on his previous run here he should have the beating of Mountain Peak.  Loves to travel smoothly off a strong pace, and jockey Robert Winston is an ideal booking to conjure up a flashing late run.
