Thursday Yankee: It’s a Syn….

The Daily Yankee

NAP OF THE DAY:  Syndicate, (1405 Ayr), 1pt win, 11/4 generally available

A competitive little handicap where it could pay to look at the Irish imports.  Gordon Elliott has a decent challenger but it is John Feane’s Syndicate that looks the one.  Has toiled on quicker ground back home, but stepped up when raised to 10f, on soft ground, in the UK, when a good Ffos Las winner.  That was an excellent effort as she could have settled better.  She is 6lbs higher in a better race, but she had at least that in hand, whilst useful apprentice Ray Dawson claims 5 of that back in any case.

Hot Hannah, (1435 Ayr), 7/2:  won here off 61 last year and hadn’t shown much til a resurgence in her last 3 runs.  She was narrowly beaten at the big Western meeting here in September and went down by a neck four days later at Hamilton with the rest of the field 4 lengths and more behind.  Runs here off 60 for the excellent Paula Muir and can get her just reward.

Falmouth Light, (1510 Ayr), 5/2:  Started this season winning a 10f handicap at Doncaster off a mark of 76.  Has gradually stepped back in trip since and after two 3rds here over 7f the last twice now tries sprinting for the first time.  Did lead both those 7f races at this 6f distance before being passed late on, so grounds for hope that he can improve for the switch and land this off his workable mark of 80.

Cubomania, (1715 Ayr), 6/4: a chance to back Gordon Elliott.  Two jump horses, Guitar Pete and Cubomania stand out as well handicapped.  In a chase there would be 7lbs between them as there is here.  We think Cubomania’s youth and more proven recent form and fitness are persuasive.  Jockey Joe Fanning knows the course well and should have a simple task.
