The Daily Yankee:
NAP OF THE DAY: De Vegas Kid, (1535 Brighton), 1pt win, 10/1 generally available
Tony Carroll’s 4yo has been on a winning spree this year, including two here on consecutive days both off a mark of 66. On those runs this rating of 73 is workable. We have to forgive a subsequent Epsom defeat, but that adds juice to the odds, and a return to Brighton can spark a return to his best under the excellent Poppy Bridgewater.
Live Dangerously, (1330 Brighton), 40/1: Perhaps worth following this horse’s name. The odds seem based on two recent poor efforts – which is fair enough – but this mare won twice here earlier in the year, once off a higher mark. She was also pretty good on comeback in early September. A visor gets fitted today, and although she’s clearly not the favourite here, she seems to have been overly dismissed.
Kirkland Forever, (1505 Brighton), 6/4: Won here recently by a widening 7l and gets to run here off the same mark. That makes him 8lbs well in on official ratings. Rival Channel Packet is similarly well in to the tune of 5lbs, but doesn’t have the course and distance badge of the selection.
Drop Kick Murphi, (1715 Brighton), 9/1: won earlier this year off exactly this mark. Didn’t show much afterwards until dropped back to this mark and running a staying on third last time out. Has Brighton winning form deep in the CV and could spring a minor surprise here.
