Champions League: Ronaldo to haunt Old Trafford

Manchester United hosting Juventus is the highlight of the latest round of Champions League matches, starting tonight.

This brings Portuguese superstar Cristiano Ronaldo back to Old Trafford to face a side he represented with such distinction.

United have had a difficult start to the season, and currently lie ninth in the Premier League. However, there have been some signs of the team awakening – a late win over Newcastle followed by a creditable draw with Chelsea.

Juventus, by contrast, are flying. They lead Serie A and are on a 16-game unbeaten run in all competitions, including 14 wins. They start as favourites.

We think Juve could win this tie, but it’s not often you’ll see United above 2/1 to win a home tie in the Champions League.

Instead we’ll turn to Ronaldo. He has scored five in six games against teams he has previously played for, including two against United. Paddy Power offers an enhanced 12/1 that he scores a header, and given United’s problems at corners we’ll take this.

The other tie involving an English club sees Manchester City travel to Shakhtar Donetsk.

City go into this game on the back of a thumping 5-0 win over Burnley and will fancy their chances of notching a win and claiming top spot in the group.

However, they haven’t had everything their own way in this competition this season, losing their first game at home to Lyon.

Still, City have a talented squad and we think they can overcome this challenge. Winger Raheem Sterling was rested over the weekend which we take to mean he will start tonight. He was impressive for England in Spain and we’ll look for him to score two tonight.

Man United/Juventus: Ronaldo to score a header, 1 pt, at 12/1, Paddy Power

Shakhtar/Man City: Sterling to score twice, 1 pt, at 6/1, bet365
