NAP OF THE DAY: Debatable, (1600 Yarmouth), 1pt win, 2/1 generally available
Won for us here when well supported a few days ago and now has to defy a 6lb penalty. Useful claimer Theodore Ladd takes 5 of that off, and whilst he’s no De Sousa, this horse looked like it came good last time without needed the full De Sousa. Should follow up with ease.
Potters Lady Jane. (1530 Yarmouth), 7/1: in a very wide open race it could pay to side with the older woman. This very lightly raced 6yo has a short head defeat and then a tidy win in two recent course trips. Josephine Gordon gets the best out of her, and for a horse that needs to come off a strong pace the big field should help, as does a nice draw.
Topmeup, (1630 Yarmouth), 9/1: another mare getting the Josephine Gordon touch. She won two big field handicaps here in August in deeply impressive fashion. Hasn’t been as good away from here, or indeed last time here when the pace may not have suited. Guaranteed a strong gallop here in a big field she should find that Summer sparkle.
Whitecrest, (1700 Yarmouth), 8/1: on a day for older mares few fit the bill as well as Whitecrest. Yes she’s a 10yo with nearly 140 races, but she was able to win off this rating at Nottingham in fine style in June. That was a 15 runner race, and it was a 16 runner race when she ran a cracking 3rd at Windsor a few days ago. She looks in good form in a race where precious few impress.
