Champions League: Erik the great…

It’s the second evening of Champions League football, with Tottenham representing the Premier League in an early kickoff.

Spurs take on PSV Eindhoven in Holland, with both teams pointless after the first two games in this group. Thus, this is a must win game for both sides, and should be fairly open as a consequence.

PSV have a good record in their league, winning all nine, so won’t be pushovers at home, but Spurs lie only two points off the top in the Premier League, winning their last four.

Spurs are favourites in this game, but we’re wary of PSV’s domestic record. Instead we’ll look to the speedy strikers of the visitors to score on the counter. And while Lucas Moura was in better form at the start of the season, Erik Lamela has been scoring for fun of late.

The second game sees Liverpool host Crvena Zvezda (more commonly known as Red Star Belgrade).

The Reds suffered a rare Champions League defeat last time out, going down 1-0 in Naples, and will be keen to get their qualification back on track. They now face the lowest ranked team in the group, a side that lost 6-1 to PSG last time out.

It’s true Liverpool’s form of late has been patchy, but they should put the visitors away tonight, and in some style. The pressure the visitors are likely to be under is set to breed corners, and we look for big central defender Virgil van Dijk to get his head to one cross and score.

Liverpool/Crvena: Van Dijk to score a header, 1 pt, at 9/1, Paddy Power
