The European Tour heads south this week, with the Gary Player Country Club at Sun City in South Africa hosting the Nedbank Golf Challenge.
The course is long, suiting big hitters, with only 72 players teeing up. We at Lap of the Odds like the top of the market in this event, as it contains a series of strong drivers.
Top of the list is Rory McIlroy. The Northern Irishman can be hit and miss, you get the impression he doesn’t care much if not in contention. But when he is engaged then 8/1 in this field could well be a steal. We’ll take that chance.
The other player that springs to mind is Lucas Bjerregaard. We’ve been keen on the big hitting Dane for some time, and he is showing signs of climbing into the group of Europe’s elite players. He finished runner up in altitude in Switzerland earlier in the year, and clearly has the ability to adapt.
He is priced around 18/1 to win the tournament, but Paddy Power also quotes him at 14/1 without the top five in the betting, including McIlroy. We think that offers real value.
McIlroy to win, 1 pt, at 8/1, SkyBet
Bjerregaard to win, excluding the top five in the betting, 1 pt, at 14/1, Paddy Power
