The PGA Tour heads south this week, with the Mayakoba Classic taking place at El Camaleon Golf Club in Mexico’s Riviera Maya.
Top of betting includes the likes of Rickie Fowler and Tony Finau, who we feel don’t win enough to justify the short odds, and Jordan Spieth, who we took a chance on last week. We’ll ignore all three this week.
The first name in the betting list which tweaks our fancy is Gary Woodland. He shot a 63 last week to finish in the top 10 and finished runner up here two years ago. He has a chance, but we think 18/1 is short.
Instead, with the tournament staged in foreign climes and doubts about the top of the market, we’re going to take a punt on Charles Howell III. The American is a regular at this course and has posted three top ten finishes. We’re hopeful he can outperform his odds.
Recommendations: Howell III 0.5 pts each way at 50/1, 1/4 the odds for the first five places, bet365
