NAP OF THE DAY: Lord Oberon, (1445 Doncaster), 1pt win, 7/2 generally available
A quality handicap with many horses who seem to specialise on hitting the frame without winning. Our old friend Shady McCoy has a chance but has crept up to a high mark. The 3yo Lord Oberon has three runner up finishes, but he is still progressing and looks the one here who can make a further step forward. Heavy ground may have been his undoing last time and he can continue his progress here.
Presidential, (1145 Doncaster), 11/2: we have picked this guy around 6 times this year but managed to persuade ourselves off him last week when he promptly sluiced in at Newmarket. We’ve tried to avoid him again this week but he loves Donny and can defy another weight hike.
Eddystone Rock, (1515 Doncaster), 12/1: a favourite of ours last year in which he ran consistently well ending in a good third in this race. This season has been a near write off but there were glimpses a few runs ago followed by a flash last week when a staying on 5th in the Irish equivalent of his race. Looks like he can at least match his effort in this race last year off this 9lb lower mark.
K Club, (1550 Doncaster), 15/2: the final fling of the turf flat season looks hand picked by the bookies. That said it could backfire as the Hannon stable’s K Club looks likely to step up in a couple of god recent thirds. He is getting better with racing and should go close here.
