NAP OF THE DAY: Essential, (1445 Southwell), 1pt win, 4/1 generally available
After a lengthy break, Southwell returns to the roster with a typical basement card. That said this is always a rich chance to back horses known to love this Marmite course who have been toiling in other conditions. Essential fits the bill, with a modest turf campaign helping his rating drop to just a pound higher than when a good winner here in the Spring. His last run was better and now he’s back on the Fibresand.
Shearian, (1205 Southwell), 5/2: one of the true Southwell warriors who looks set to prosper back on his surface of choice. His last run here was a comfortable win in January and he now returns off a 2lb lower mark. Should go close.
Fareeq, (1305 Southwell), 5/1: two course runs are a win and a second and now returns off that old winning mark. Ran pretty well last time on his first run back from a break, and looks primed for this.
Buonarotti, (1415 Southwell), 15/2: yes we’ll tip him again even if he let us down again with a staying on third last week. Loves soft ground which usually transfers well here but is making a course debut and as a hold up horse will need to handle the kickback. That said this racing style should suit, and he is a healthy price for a horse with definite talent.
