Wednesday Yankee: Right Barney…

The Daily Yankee

NAP OF THE DAY:  Barney Dwan, (1350 Bangor), 1pt win, 5/2 generally available

Fergal O’Brien’s chaser has been placed in handicaps at the last two Cheltenham Festivals.  Both of those came off ratings of 143 so his mark here of 141 looks very workable.  He tuned up nicely on his return over a shorter trip at Chepstow and this longer trip should help.  The stable is in excellent form.

Just Minded, (1245 Bangor), 9/4:  young trainer Olly Murphy has proven adept at improving horses switched from other yards.  Just Minded makes his Murphy stable debut having moved from Sue Smith.  She has a great eye for a chaser and would have had this one earmarked for major improvement this season in any regard.  Add in the Murphy factor and he could be a good thing under the excellent Aidan Coleman.

Redmond, (1405 Exeter), 5/1:  Another excellent young trainer, Jack Barber, has booked the reliable Nick Scholfield to steer Redmond in Exeter’s 3m chase.  He was getting a great front running and jumping display from the horse on comeback at Fontwell recently until fading late on.  That may have him spot on for this.

Trans Express, (1540 Exeter), 13/2:  has course form in handicaps at around this distance of 1112.  He is 4lbs above his last winning mark but that is manageable.  Returned this season with a good 7th of 20 at Cheltenham.  These are shallower waters, and also his favourite, that can produce a much improved efffort.
