Thursday Yankee: Ass looks big in this….

The Daily Yankee

NAP OF THE DAY:  Assimile, (1240 Southwell), 1pt win, 10/3 generally available

When racing returned to Southwell earlier this week the deep track favoured those on or near the pace.  Assimile won his only race here with prominent tactics, a career best that earned him a rating of 79.  He has struggled to follow that up on turf falling down to a mark of 66, off which he showed some return to form when 2nd last time at Chelmsford.  If the return to this unique surface resurrects that Spring form he can outclass these.

Stanley, (1210 Southwell), 8/1:  probably an insane move after tipping today’s favourite Shearian earlier this week when he was narrowly beaten pulling a massive 16l clear of the rest.  But at near odds on he makes the market as he may be a bit quirky.  Stanley is bred for this but has never tried it.  He gets the blinkers on and Graham Lee and he could be set up for pace setting duties.  It was a pace setter that saw off Shearian last time and it could work again.

Saaheq, (1340 Southwell), 2/1:  has been a progressive sprinter this season with two wins and a good run in defeat last time.  This first time on Fibresand is of massive interest as he is truly bred for the job.  His stable have a great record here and this guy looks set to dominate the better class sprints here through the winter, starting now.

Lean On Pete, (1520 Southwell), 16/1:  a veteran but super consistent on this surface. On the face of it he is not well enough handicapped to win here, but he is an out and out front runner and there was a distinct pace bias here earlier in the week.  Could get some of these in trouble and is worth the risk at odds that are probably twice what they should be.
