Rugby Union: Dropping for cash…

This is not our specialty, but there is a bet screaming out to be placed in the mouth-watering clash between Ireland and New Zealand.

This clash is between the two highest ranked teams in the world – with Ireland keen to take this prestigious scalp again (they won in Chicago two years ago for the first time)  and New Zealand wanting to put one of their main rivals for next year’s World Cup firmly in their place.

This could be a tight match, with defences strong and points at a premium in winter conditions. Given this, and the importance of the win, both teams will be looking at every opportunity to get the scoreboard moving, including drop goals.

Last weekend, in a similarly intense game at Twickenham, both England and New Zealand took opportunities to slot drop goals.

We think this scoring opportunity will be in the forefront of both teams’ thinking this evening, and the 4/1 that Paddy Power offers for a successful kick represents real value.

Recommendation: A successful drop goal in the Ireland/New Zealand game, 2 pts, at 4/1, Paddy Power
