NAP OF THE DAY: Mohaayed, (1500 Cheltenham), 1pt win, 14/1 generally available
This handicap is stacked with blog pets and cases can easily be made for Verdana Blue and Silver Streak on this ground, although neither is definitely suited by the track. Nuba Negra could go well, whilst each way blog regular Man Of Plenty is a tempting price. But we won big at the festival in the equivalent race with 25/1 shot Mohaayed. If anything quicker ground can help and hasn’t been heavily punished. He looks overpriced.
Ballyhome, (1315 Cheltenham), 5/1: a typically competitive handicap but local trainer Fergal O’Brien brings an in form low weighted contender in Ballyhome. He is up 10lbs for an 8 length win at Wetherby, but he was better with every yard there and this stiff track can suit. Connor Brace is again on board claiming a very generous 10lbs.
Supasundae, (1415 Punchestown), 5/1: it was a massive disappointment when last year’s star novice Samcro got turned over at long odds-on on seasonal debut. It can’t be value to take odds-on again here against much tougher opponents. Faugheen is getting older, has had problems, and may now need further. Supasundae however is the reigning Irish Champion Hurdler and should be a whole lot shorter.
Brosna George, (1450 Punchestown), 4/1: fit and in form, but only raised 5lbs for a tidy win at Down Royal last time. Many of these are better chasers and whilst George is very much living in the basement on a day of quality, he still looks value in a weak field.
