Monday Yankee: Where there’s a Will…

The Daily Yankee

NAP OF THE DAY: William H Bonney, (1445 Hereford), 2pts win, 9/4 generally available

Alan King’s hurdler last won nine races ago at Cheltenham off a mark of 132.  He comes here off just 125 and looks a mighty bet.  Yes he has lost eight straight, but that is a list of the best handicap hurdles in the calendar – two Betfairs, two Swintons, an Imperial Cup, a County, a Greatwood…. and now Hereford.  This is like dropping Romelu Lukaku into a Sunday League match to break his goal scoring drought.  Trust him to find the back of the net.

Buzz, (1800 Kempton), 9/4:  hit peak form earlier in the Summer when winning twice here.  That wasn’t just the all weather though as he has since won at Newbury and ran a strong 5th in the November handicap.  Back here he can outclass this field for his savvy trainer who does so well with these late improvers.

Sunblazer, (1830 Kempton), 5/2:  won here around this time last year off a mark of 85.  Ran nicely last time and seems to be getting peaked for another winter all weather campaign.  A mark of 81 looks generous and James Doyle is a jockey booking that screams intent.

Apex King, (1900 Kempton), 7/2:  has run really well in decent races here in his last theee visits.  Looks on a good mark and this is by far the weakest race he has found here.  Will probably be dropped in behind, and as long as there is a fair gallop he could be hard to hold off up the straight.
