NAP OF THE DAY: Grand Inquisitor, (1320 Newcastle), 1pt win, 11/2 generally available
Short priced favourite Victoria Drummond is 7lbs well in after a 12 length romp on handicap debut at Southwell last week. But Southwell is a curious track, winning distances are exacerbated and the form doesn’t always read across. She is still the one to beat but Grand Inquisitor for the in form Ian Williams may be the one to do it. He was a superb narrow runner up last time when back on the all weather behind a very well handicapped winner. He can go one better here at a good price.
Donnachies Girl, (1355 Newcastle), 10/3: has course form of 1252. Ignore her turf form which has conveniently seen her mark drop, and the rating of 65 starts to read very well in the context of those course runs, being her lowest mark to date and comparable to the mark of 66 off which she landed her course win. This Class 6 event is her lowest grade for nearly two years and can prompt a win.
Trautman, (1425 Newcastle), 9/2: has won three of his last six which is an extraordinary strike rate at this grade. Tried heading over to Ireland last time but was left in the stalls. Before that, his only course run here was probably his best win to date. It is worth trusting that form which stands out in this company.
Watchable, (1635 Newcastle), 13/2: a cracking little sprint for a Thursday afternoon at Newcastle. Plenty can be given chances but we like the returning-to-form Watchable. His mark of 89 is fair as he won off 92 in July and was rated 110 when third at Group 3 level on his only previous run here. Ran a blinder in a good race at Kempton last week when pipped late on over 6f, and this stiff 5f should be ideal.
