NAP OF THE DAY: Plantagenet, (1510 Kempton), 1pt win, 6/1 generally available
With the exposed No Hiding Place at the head of the market this looks an enticing betting heat. Kempton can work well for pace-setters and Plantagenet looks ready to strike after two good runs so far this season. Danny Samson takes off a useful 5lbs and with no other confirmed front runners this could work out tactically for the in form Seamus Mullins yard.
Eric The Third, (1245 Musselburgh), 6/4: a hard to weigh up favourite. He is now rated 115 over fences yet just 102 here for hurdles with another 10lbs removed by his promising young jockey. Before his recent improvement he was rated the same for hurdles and fences so the question is whether that still holds true. We probably aren’t buyers of his new chase rating – and neither it would seem is trainer Vaughan – but a net hurdles rating of 92 looks a gift in this company.
Baron du Plessis, (1305 Ludlow), 7/2: runs for trainer-of-the-moment Ian Williams. Was favourite at Kempton when a big mistake knocked him out of contention. He still ran on well for third and with that experience can improve here. This doesn’t look a strong race and fellow favourite Hugo’s Horse has to be respected although he has been rushed over fences having shown nothing over hurdles.
Cap St Vincent, (1500 Musselburgh), 6/4: another likely Tim Vaughan dividend for the long hike north of the border. This guy made his chasing debut in a useful little race at Southwell and showed the value of that when forging clear last time to win at the “Shropshire Musselburgh” – Ludlow. Doesn’t look to have too much to best here and should do so with comfort.
