NAP OF THE DAY: Boots And Spurs, (1540 Southwell), 1pt win, 4/1 generally available
A real old timer and a Southwell regular. Loves to attack from on or near the front, ideal tactics here, an easy ride for an amateur, and arrives off the back of some recent form. A decent third here last time was his best for a while and he is over a stone lower in the weights than when competing here in the Spring.
Anna Jammella, (1210 Southwell), 7/4: a motley bunch to open the sand racing at Southwell. Within that, Anna Jammella stands out on her gutsy third here last time. Local jockey Hayley Turner will keep her handy and looks like opening the day with an easy win.
Gorgeous General, (1310 Southwell), 12/1: Not the strongest of sprints and the market seems ready to discount Gorgeous General’s remarkable form outlier when a good 4th in a maiden here last time. The third has won since and strictly speaking a mark of 48 looks very generous. It was a flash in the pan on all previous efforts, but it was also his debut on this Marmite surface. Perhaps he just loves it, we’re getting a good price to find out.
French Twist, (1410 Southwell), 8/1: the outsider here having been a well beaten third to today’s favourite Lads Order here last time. That was 6f though and this filly was doing her best work at the end after starting slowly. She gets a whopping 12lb weight pull, and may have been overlooked.
