Friday Yankee: Enter the Dragon…

The Daily Yankee

NAP OF THE DAY:  Dragon D’Estruval, (1535 Newbury), 1pt win, 5/2 generally available

Ex-French and twice a winner at Auteil, just one run on these shores when jogging home in a minor Ffos Las event in May.  It’s pure guesswork for the handicapper and he has plumped for the cautious midpoint of 132 for a horse who could as easily be a 150 animal as he is a 120.  Taking these odds about being on the top side of his rating seems pretty fair.

Victoria Drummond, (1300 Southwell), 4/1:  was a deeply impressive winner here two runs ago when making all.  Couldn’t repeat that afterwards on the different surface at Newcadtle albeit still running well.  This is a big step up in class but not only is she obviously at her best here, the big form opponents have yet to try this Marmite track.

Wholestone, (1500 Newbury), 9/4:  did best of these when third in the Stayers Hurdle and has already landed a smooth win this season.  Sam Spinner may not be at his best first time, and Unowhatimeanharry is not the most consistent.  This should be another cosy win for Wholestone.

Boots and Spurs, (1515 Southwell), 4/1:  was a losing nap for us three days ago when a well held second here.  He actually plugged on well after failing to get his preferred role in front.  He has a more experienced jockey this time and can hopefully break a bit better.  He is the proven old-timer here against some smart newcomers, but that track liking is significant, and he should be given one more chance.
