Big Day Yankee: Thank the Ms….

It’s off to Newbury tomorrow as this writer will be celebrating a landmark birthday – old enough to remember Burrough Hill Lad, not old enough for Bachelors Hall.  I’ll be hoping for a total mare in the big race….

The Daily Yankee

NAP OF THE DAY: Ms Parfois, (1500 Newbury), 1pt win, 6/1 generally available

The Ladbroke Trophy looks at the mercy of three runners with entwining form.  Thomas Patrick was our big Aintree winner, he holds Elegant Escape at these revised weights for a narrow defeat to that opponent last time.  He is 9lbs higher than Aintree and may find the concession of weight to Ms Parfois too much.  The mare ran second in top races at Cheltenham and Aintree.  On that form she has a signifanct advantage on Elegant Escape, and with good form at 4miles she should enjoy this test.  We have to assume that her trainer will have long targeted this and she should be spot on even on debut.

Man Of Plenty (1350 Newbury), 16/1:  a veteran and no stranger to these pages.  Often runs well in big fields threatening the places.  This trip is probably ideal and he handles soft ground well.  Couldn’t get a blow in over a quick 2m at Cheltenham last time and will prefer the shape of this race.

Whatswrongwithyou, (1425 Newbury), 10/3:  looked very promising for Henderson last year building up a smooth sequence that resulted in him being favourite for the highly competitive Imperial Cup.  Nothing went right for him then and he has been kept off the track since.  Could resume a stronger type for the break and has to be worth a flutter.

Bigmartre, (1535 Newbury), 9/2:  our day has a sting in the tail as my good friend Phil runs his own horse in the last.  We have long been admirers of this horse who jumps so brilliantly.  His seasonal debut was disappointing as he often goes well fresh, but that was a course he may not like too much.  In contrast he loves Newbury and may be capable of huge improvement now he has his conditions.
