Sunday Yankee: Easy pickings…

The Daily Yankee

NAP OF THE DAY:  Easy Game, (1230 Navan), 1pt win, 9/2 generally available

Won the grade 2 Monksfield Hurdle here last time edging out two of today’s rivals.  Always looked likely to get up that day and can be expected to confirm the form.  That looks strong and worth supporting against the less proven market leaders.

Ballasalla, (1250 Carlisle), 9/2:  a small field where the market is dominated by Xpo Universal.  He is hard to assess having lost his first 70 races before winning 3 of his last 6.  That’s come from switching to hurdles and he may be worth taking in over fences.  Ballasalla makes the inverse switch and as a full brother to National winner Ballabriggs he can be expected to be a much better chaser.  Worth backing him for the upset.

Calie Du Mesnil, (1300 Navan), 6/1:  a good quality handicap hurdle has attracted a good field of mostly handicap regulars.  Willie Mullins’ mare is a an exception in making he handicap debut.  A rating of 127 looks a bit of a guess and it would be no surprise if she had enough in hand to defy that mark for Ruby.

Aspen Colorado, (1425 Carlisle), 10/3:  a winner of both his starts, both here, since moving to Jonjo from Joseph O’Brien.  May still have more in hand for moving up to this longer trip.  Worth risking against some mostly exposed northern hurdlers.
