NAP OF THE DAY: Stowaway Magic, (1540 Kempton), 1pt win, 14/1 generally available
A great day’s racing with a feast of quality contests, but save some room for dessert as Kempton’s closer throws up a tasty titbit. Stowaway Magic has moved from the top Henderson yard to the up and coming Skelton stable. Good enough for 8th in the Coral Cup, he has not taken too kindly to fences and reverts to hurdles for the first time for Skelton. Dropped 4lbs and back at a track where he’s 2 from 2, he looks well set to return to his best form.
Le Richeburg, (1440 Leopardstown), 11/2: looks to have a tough task against useful hurdlers Mengli Khan and Voic Du Reve. They though are both ex Flat horses whilst Le Richeburg is bred for today’s job, has had three runs over fences, and was an excellent 2nd at grade 1 level last time.
Black Mischief, (1325 Wincanton), 7/2: This improving 6yo sandwiched a fall between two quality wins. He was very impressive last time, under Richard Johnson, having previously dumped Aine O’Connor when looking likely to win at Market Rasen. Expect him to bounce back under Aine.
Double Shuffle, (1505 Kempton), 40/1: Looks a huge price considering he was a narrow second last year to Might Bite. With doubts over the Champion, the suspect stamina of Waiting Patiently and Politogue, the race could just be ripe for an upset.
