NAP OF THE DAY: Pleasant Company, (1245 Leopardstown), 1pt win, 5/1 generally available
This Pertemps qualifier is often a good place for clues to the Cheltenham final in mark – so well worth reviewing. With respect to the well weighted The Gatechecker and Russisn Bill, it’s the mark of Pleasant Company that meets the eye. Second in the Aintree National, he is rated 154 over fences but runs here off an historic hurdle rating of 128. That’s a huge help as is Ruby in the saddle.
Gun Digger, (1320 Leopardstown), 2/1: an ex pointer who is bred for fences, he has always looked likely to improve for the switch. His two chase efforts so far have been full of promise, including splitting some star novices last time.
Mighty Stowaway, (1425 Leopardstown), 9/2: Another benefitting from a much lower hurdles mark – in this case he is a full 15 lbs lower over hurdles. Loves to run from the front. A tactic that has proven useful here this week
Road To Respect: (1500 Leopardstown), 9/4: Last year’s winner of this and followed up with a fine 4th at Cheltenham in the Gold Cup. Looked better than ever at Down Royal and despite his experience he remains one of the youngest here. Monalee and Annibale Fly are interesting, but it’s got to be the champ.
