Premier League: Looking for Pogba magic…

This afternoon is jam-packed full of Premier League action, with a number of the league’s elite having to respond to the pace set by Liverpool at the top.

First up Chelsea travel to Crystal Palace needing to win to cement their position in the top four. This is a tricky game to call – Palace were superb in beating Manchester City a couple of gamed ago but have struggled to score at home this season, netting just five times. Chelsea have also been inconsistent of late.

Palace midfielder Luka Milivojevic has averaged a shot on target every home game, takes the penalties, and has scored three in his last five. He’s 9/2 to score anytime, but in a likely low scoring game we’ll take a chance on the 14/1 that he’s the first goalscorer.

Next up Manchester City travel to Southampton looking to break a two match losing streak. With City incentivized by Liverpool’s winning rum and the hosts having played on Thursday, we think this should be an away win despite Southampton’s improved form of late.

City are likely to have a lot of possession in this game and that could translate into set pieces. With this in mind, and with the main goal scorer markets being very tight, we’ll take a chance on big central defender Aymeric Laporte scoring at anytime.

The final match of the afternoon sees a resurgent Manchester United hosting Bournemouth.

United have started to score goals again, although new caretaker manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been helped by a kind run of fixtures. Here again his team face a Bournemouth side in the midst of a tricky run, having just been thrashed 5-0 by Spurs.

United should win this game going away, but could face some difficult times in defence given Bournemouth look better going forward than defending.

One of the United players playing with freedom after the change of management has been French star Paul Pogba. He scored twice on Boxing Day against Huddersfield and ran the show against Cardiff the match before. We’ll take him to be the most influential player today, winning the man of the match award.
