FA Cup: Home advantage to prove decisive…

It’s the Saturday of the third round of the FA Cup, and we at Lap of the Odds have sorted out a treble to help banish the winter blues.

First up is Derby against Southampton. The hosts are flying high in the Championship, have already beaten Manchester United in the Carabao Cup and will love the opportunity to beat another Premier League side. Southampton, by contrast, must surely be more concerned with their survival in the top flight and could rest players. We’ll go for a home win at a nice price.

Next up is West Brom against Wigan. The home team are in fourth position in the Championship, while their opponents languish in 20th place. They met recently in the league, with West Brom winning 2-0 at home. Now it’s likely the hosts will rest players given the need to prioritise their promotion push, but Wigan have lost nine of their last 13 games. We’ll take a home win.

And finally, continuing the theme of home victories, we’ll take Bournemouth to beat Brighton. The hosts have struggled during a difficult period in the league, but they will take a lost from their recovery from 2-0 down against Watford last time out. They are not going to be relegated, and could have a good in the Cup if they get through this match.

Recommendation:   Derby, West Brom and Bournemouth all to win as a treble, 1 pt, at approximately 9/1, widely available
