Tonight sees the first leg of the second semifinal of the Carabao Cup. And while the first semi saw two giants of the English game clash (Spurs and Chelsea), this pits defending Premier League champions Manchester City against Burton Albion, a team in the third tier of English football.
As well as Burton have done to get this far–and they have already put out the likes of Aston Villa, Burnley, Nottingham Forest and Middlesbrough, all above them in the league structure–you have to think this is where their cup run ends.
City are in prime form. They followed up their league victory over the previously unbeaten Liverpool with a 7-0 thrashing of Rotherham in the FA Cup over the weekend. They were able to take off key players early in that FA Cup game, and so look likely to field a largely similar side tonight.
The question is how to profit from what seems an easy City win and has been priced up accordingly. Looking at the Rotherham game, City conceded only one corner and received just one yellow card. We’ll look elsewhere for opportunities.
Raheem Sterling opened the scoring against Rotherham and has been one of City’s most impressive players this season. He was substituted after just 57 minutes leaving him fresh to play today. We’ll take the 4/1 on offer that he scores first again.
Recommendations: Sterling to score first, 1 pt, at 4/1, widely available
