The PGA Tour stays in the Hawaiian islands this week, with the Sony Open taking place at Wai’alae Country Club in Honalulu.
A total of 23 of the 33 who competed last week in the Sentry Tournament of Champions make the short trip to Maui, and although the course is different it would probably pay to look at these players for the winner given they are already acclimatised.
The favourite for the event, and our pick, is Justin Thomas. The world no. 4 ended last week strongly, hitting a fourth round 65 to finish third. He won this event in 2017, finishing an impressive 27 under par. He’s a short price, but we fancy him.
Our second selection didn’t play last week, but he has a very good record at this course in recent years. Zach Johnson doesn’t hit the ball very far off the tee, but this is a short course so he doesn’t need to. He’s finished in the top 15 four times in the last five years. We’ll take a chance.
Thomas to win, 1 pt, at 6/1, widely available
Johnson 0.5 pts each way at 40/1, 1/5 the odds for the first eight places, Paddy Power
