Thursday Yankee: Southwell’s great Acclaim

The Daily Yankee

NAP OF THE DAY:  Acclaim The Nation, (1320 Southwell), 1pt win, 7/2 generally available

Won a race here recently of which this is an effective rematch with the first four home all reopposing. The handicapper had them set to dead heat.  Second home Ornate was away from the main action then, that actually may have been advantageous, he is more likely to be in the dogfight early here and the opening speed of Acclaim The Nation can again have them all chasing his kick-back.  Winners win, and although the weights are reframed, we don’t think the result will change.

Azari, (1245 Southwell), 5/2:  spent 2017 with trainer Tom Dascombe ending it rated 95.  Has seen that collapse under a series of awful runs for his new small yard until a first sight of Southwell’s fibresand saw a surprise win off a mark of just 70.  That could be a flash in the pan, but raised to just 73 it’s a chance worth taking that the Southwell sands have sparked a renaissance.

Three Weeks, (1355 Southwell), 9/4:  An all weather specialist, his last two runs were his first on fibresand and saw him run close to two massively improving runners from Messrs Gosden and Johnson.  May have more in hand than market leader Weld Al Emirates whose last win has been deemed worthy of a 3lb rise but he has to carry an additional 3lbs here because of the penalty timing.

Piazon, (1535 Southwell), 6/4:  has become a course and distance specialist with form figures of 11221110003012.  The last two runs were in this winter’s campaign where his form is interwoven with some of the more consistent Southwell 5f form of the year.  Looks a simple ride for this hands and heels apprentice race and should record another course win.
