Friday Yankee: Follow the Lady…

The Daily Yankee

NAP OF THE DAY: Lady Makfi, (1845 Wolverhampton), 1pt win 11/1 generally available

this mare once loved this track winning twice during a four win burst in 2016 that say her rise from 52 to 79. It’s been a slow decline since and she is now back to 55. Just four runs ago there were signs of better and there are excuses (turf or trip) for big defeats since. Some day soon she looks likely to click and money for her would be a big sign from this yard. Today may be the day?

Twenty Twenty, (1300 Huntingdon), 9/1:   Always interesting to see how Gary Moore handles his handicappers and he can be particularly adept with his juvenile hurdlers.  He opts to send this guy into handicaps at pretty much the first opportunity, also opening up the step up in trip.  As a juvenile he gets a whopping 16lb weight for age – which is 9lbs more than he would receive in an equivalent flat race.  Add in the 8lb allowance for his young jockey and Moore has pulled every conceivable lever.  Any money in the market would be significant but worth a punt in any regard.

Sonoftheking, (1400 Huntingdon), 13/2:  may be worth opposing short favourite Wood Pigeon who started at this trip after import from Ireland but whose last 8 runs have been at shorter suggesting his trainer is not convinced.  Sonoftheking wins once a season and is in fair form, his mark is a winning one given his rider’s claim, and with doubts about form, trip and weight for his rivals he could be decent value.

Reckless Endeavour, (1410 Lingfield), 12/1:  his best form has come at this track when a winner here in February off a mark of 96 and runner up on finals day here off 99.  Hasn’t shown that form since but wasn’t so bad at Wolves last time and now returns here for the first time since those good runs and off just 87.  Obviously a risky proposition but perhaps not as unlikely as the odds suggest.
