NAP OF THE DAY: Smaoineamh Alainn, (1520 Chepstow), 1pt win, 9/2 generally available
We were very keen on this mare dropping down from Class 1 to Class 3 at Cheltenham last time. A mid race blunder took its toll, albeit she was disappointing. Has been dropped another 2lbs and this Class 3 is a weaker event again. Back on the mark of her last win, and with the irresistible Rex Dingle claiming his golden 5lbs she may just have too much know how for the inexperienced favourite.
Definately Vinnie, (1305 Chepstow), 9/1: a huge field on modest staying handicappers. It was tempting to pick the high flying Venetia Williams’ Royal Tara but we prefer the course form of Definately Vinnie. He stayed on well to be a close second here 11 days ago, and the timing works perfect with this the last day he can use that same mark before a 4lb raise comes into effect. Needs a strong pace as stamina is his long suit.
Awsaaf, (1610 Kempton), 11/4: The bookies are being rightfully. Auctions pricing this fella given he has shown little form since a debut win in 2017. That had him rated 78 atvge end of his 2yo season and when acquired by the shrewd gambling Wigham yard he has been last in four runs before showing the first sign of life last time at Chelmsford. Has dropped down to 57, is well drawn, and looks set to come good. Even at the cautious odds there is room for further tightening if the legendary stable money makes an appearance.
Rock Bottom, (1645 Kempton), 6/4: two wins and three places in his five lifetime runs. Started handicap life at Southwell. It looked like he didn’t quite last home on that deep track albeit still a fair second. Bossed a 4 runner affair at Wolves, and is drawn well on the rail for a front runner.
