The character Jack in the classic ‘Lord of the Flies’ book may have had scant regard for the rules, but subscribers to Lap of the Odds will probably side with his opponent Ralph after Sunday’s football. After all, “the rules are all we’ve got!”
Firstly, our initial suggestion to take advantage of Manchester City’s likely easy win over Huddersfield was to bet on City not conceding while Raheem Sterling and Gabriel Jesus scored. (Premier League: Away cruise for City…)
However, Jesus didn’t play which meant the rules determined this bet turned into a double consisting of Sterling netting and City not conceding. This duly happened, ensuring an approximate 2/1 winner.
Secondly, we suggested Dele Alli was a good price at 8/1 to score first in the match between Fulham and Tottenham. Now it’s true he wasn’t the first player to put the ball in the net, that award goes to Fernando Llorente.
But he scored in the wrong goal, and the rules state that own goals don’t count towards the first scorer bet. And so Alli’s equaliser counted, to the delight of subscribers.
