NAP OF THE DAY: Harvest Day, (1915 Newcastle), 1pt win, 6/1 generally available
Hot favourite Briyouni is in stellar form but this track is new, the rating is higher and he’s out on the far flank in stall 1. No obvious pace here and in a similar recent race here Harvest Day finished on the bridle having had no luck at all. She is due a change of fortune and lacked cover last time when running second. This could be her big chance.
Gallipoli, (1715 Newcastle), 11/2: has run up to his best in two runs here when runner up to today’s favourite Straight Right and course specialist Amazour. Is 5lbs better off with the favourite for a narrow half length defeat, and that came off a six month break, a previous 4 month break resulted in one of his wins. Off since October and now back here he looks good value to create the upset.
Stone Of Destiny, (1745 Newcastle), 7/2: Top rated Encore D’Or is one of our favourites but he was in prime form either side of his previous visit here in 2016 where he bombed. He could be worth taking on with Andrew Balding’s Stone Of Destiny who won on racecourse debut here and was good enough to place 4th in a group 1 at Royal Ascot. Lost his way afterwards but has had a break and a gelding operation, and worth risking he finds his best here.
Rock Warbler, (1945 Newcastle), 9/1: loads of pace on here which could suit a smooth travelling hold up horse. Step forward four times course winner Rock Warbler. It’s a bit of a punt as he makes his stable debut after a 4 month break and over a sprint trip he hasn’t tried in 3 years. But a stable change is often a good time to back, and the race will at least be run to suit him ideally.
