We’re straying a little from our core expertise, but the first Test between England and the West Indies starts in Barbados this afternoon and one particular bet springs to mind.
The West Indies have had difficulties with the pace of their pitches for a few years, resulting in deary cricket being played. To give their pace bowlers some help they have turned to the Dukes cricket ball instead of the Kookaburra. The Dukes offers more assistance to bowlers, particularly swing bowlers.
That’s all well and good, but the only other country that uses the Dukes at home is England, who also have the world’s best swing bowler in Jimmy Anderson.
Anderson has only played one Test in Barbados (yes, that surprised us as well!), but on that occasion he took 10 wickets in the match.
We think Anderson will shine in this Test, and think the 2/1 on offer that he takes the most wickets for England in the first innings is a good price. However, William Hill offers 3/1 for the same bet as long as England win, which they will. We think that offers real value.
Recommendations: Anderson to take most wickets for England in first innings and England win, 1 pt, at 3/1, William Hill
