NAP OF THE DAY: Geneva Barracks, (1520 Naas), 1pt win, 10/1 generally available
Showed some talent hurdling in 2017, but had been a year off before running with conspicuous promise in a never nearer fourth at Cork. Has been given a longish break since and should be able to repeat or improve on that effort here. Looks a great price.
Chris’s Dream, (1440 Naas), 5/2: we’ll be on full festival watch with long time 4 miler fancy Ballyward. Progress from a recent fencing debut would be illustrated by reversing the form with Sharp Operator, but it may not be enough to win. Chris’s Dream trounced that same horse on chasing debut, and although behind Ballyward at Cheltenham last year may be the sharper of the two over the bare 3 miles.
A Tail Of Intrigue, (1540 Sedgefield), 3/1: many of these have reasons to pass over. Favourite Achill Hill Boy won well last time but now has a lifetime high rating to overcome. In contrast A Tail Of Intrigue was once rated almost 2st higher. He ran a blinder to be 4th in a big field after a year’s layoff. Nursed back by new trainer Katy Price, he now gets the valuable 5lbs off for the excellent Rex Dingle.
Poker Party, (1550 Naas), 7/1: ran a cracker on handicap chase debut at Leopardstown. Was well beaten there by a very well handicapped horse, but still finished well clear of the rest. Gets the top notch services of Rachael Blackmore, and could go one better today.
