Tuesday Yankee: Ganache panache…

The Daily Yankee:

NAP OF THE DAY: Petite Ganache, (1505 Newcastle), 1pt win, 4/1 generally available

Had a poor completion record over hurdles last year, but  returned from a break with a very smooth performance to win here a few weeks ago.  Only upped 6lbs for that, which looks very generous.  This may be a tougher race, but he had plenty in hand and gets the services of the  wizard of the north, Brian Hughes.

Peters Cousin, (1320 Newcastle), 2/1:  a very promising mare who ran with credit in some quality bumpers before winning her second hurdle race in good fashion at Kelso in December.  The horse she beat there off levels is now rated 121, which makes Peters Cousin’s mark of 111 look a bit of a gift.  Some nice mares to beat but it will be very disappointing if she can’t do it off this weight.

Straidnahanna, (1430 Newcastle), 11/1:  the Sue Smith yard has landed 5 from 11 this month.  This veteran has two ways of running – domination or capitulation.   It is finely balanced but he has won here, and his last three wins, over the course of 16 runs were the only three times he was rated 132 or lower (he is back to 132 today).  They were also in Feb ’16, Jan ’17, and Feb ’18, so this is very much his time of the year.

Las Tunas, (1535 Newcastle), 9/4:  one of a pair of heavily penalised recent winners in the field.  Gets a whopping 12lb rise, but that was a facile win at Ayr, and would have been the time before but for a late fall.  A 2m chaser on a roll can be hard to catch up with and he can win again here.
