A nice win for nap Royal Cosmic yesterday (“Tuesday Yankee: Royal Decree.:“), the 9/2 shot streaking home by 7 lengths. Let’s hope for more of the same today…
The Daily Yankee
NAP OF THE DAY: Oscar Rose, (1445 Ludlow), 1pt win, 4/1 generally available
We went over the top with this frustrating mare more than a few times last season. She often looks good but finds ways to lose. Having left her alone in good company this season we are finally tempted back in by this drop in class at a track that should suit. Whilst there are some promising types here it would be a new low in flattering to deceive if Paddy Brennan can’t finally force her home.
Magic Mirror, (1455 Kempton), 9/4: we were on this course specialist mare when she made a dramatic drop back in trip to a mile last time. That didn’t quite pan out for her hold up style as the race was not run that quickly allowing the leader to make all and this one’s customary late rattle was good enough only for second. Steps back up to 10f here and looks set for another course win granted some pace in the race.
Peters Cousin, (1505 Ayr), 13/8: a very promising novice hurdling mare, who delivered on earlier promise when a cosy winner at Kelso last time. The horse she beat that day off levels has won since and is now rated 121, making this mare’s opening rating of 111 look particularly generous.
Gortroe Joe, (1515 Ludlow), 3/1: should make into a good chaser on breeding and certainly looked that way when a close third on fences debut at Ascot. Was made favourite to win here next but only made it to the 10th fence before crashing out. Harry Skelton missed the ride that day but is back up here, and it looks like a statement of confidence to immediately return to the scene of the crime. We’ll have an eye on the well handicapped Gardefort, but his day still looks a few runs away.
