NAP OF THE DAY: Scotchtown, (1605 Sandown. 1pt win, 9/1 Betfair
Now rated a stone lower over fences than hurdles, he has looked broadly out of form until running a blinder at Newbury recently. That showed that stamina is his thing and this ground may well suit him perfectly. Gets a relatively low weight, a visor and should go well if finding a good early rhythm.
Briac, (1250 Sandown), 4/1: won this race last year and has recently struck form again. Has been lumped with a whopping 11lbs extra after an easy Ffos Las mud romp. He will need a personal best, but not many hurdlers cope well with Sandown in the mud but we know this guy does. Maybe the weight will prove too much but he’s well priced for a course and distance winner in peak form.
Duhallow Gesture, (1425 Sandown), 7/2: was an excellent bumper mare finishing with a good third at Aintree. Hasn’t quite hit those heights over hurdles yet. It she is a big rangy sort who is likely to keep improving. She may be better suited to this tough track than some of her rivals.
Carlos Du Fruitier, (1500 Sandown), 15/8 a young horse taking on veterans, Carlos runs here after a string of decent placed efforts. Only Keltus comes lose on official ratings and he is 14 months off the track. Brodie Hampson may be the pick of the jockeys too, and can steer Carlos to victory.
