NAP OF THE DAY: Black Salt, (1610 Southwell), 1pt win, 5/1 generally available
Course specialists Angel Palanas and Black Salt renew a pre-Christmas rivalry. This is Black Salt’s trip and he outpaced his rival for an over 3l win on that occasion. Angel prefers 7f and with only a 3lb pull its a little surprising to see him favourite here. We’ll trust Black Salt to confirm that previous form albeit perhaps a little closer.
Bond Angel, (1500 Southwell), 5/1: shouldn’t be much between course specialists Bond Angel and Thunder Buddy. On December form favourite Thunder Buddy has a fractional edge, but we prefer Bond Angels tactical versatility and guts at the finish and expect her to record another win.
Notebook, (1505 Thurles), 6/1: favourite Harrie could be anything still, but the Mullins machine is not at full throttle, with a 3 from 24 record in the last few weeks and that means this one can be taken on. Top rated Go Another One was awful last time, leaving the Gigginstown three all rated much the same. That makes Notebook value at much the longer price even though he comes here from a career best win at Tramore. Worth a flutter.
Diggin Deep, (1615 Thurles), 7/2: won well for us at Doncaster last time and that form is already working out pretty well. Loves this good ground and although he has plenty of more unexposed rivals to beat, the flip side is that we know he will like these conditions when most of these are unproven.
